Children, in general, have not developed their executive functions yet; we know how difficult their behaviors can be due to this lack of insight and inability to see the bigger picture. Many adult mental health issues stem from lack of development, frozen development, or physiological damage that inhibits development of insight, foresight, hindsight, and the ability to see beyond the current situation. In the absence of these abilities, interventions can be initiated that develop executive function or substitute for lack of executive function.
